The Syria the world forgot

This Fotojournal is ought to give an impression about a Syria that ceased to exist in the course of the last years events. One central aim of this Shabka Fotojournal is to promote a differentiated image of Syria and the Syrian society in particular. Since today’s predominant impression is largely concerning derivatives of the ongoing, devastating civil war, Syria as a country tends to be seen exclusively in sectarian terms (even when trying to describe the “old Syria”), as it could be seen in a recently published article on the website of the N.Y. Times.

All this pictures have been taken in Syria between 2010 and 2011, just before the protests in Syria erupted and slowly but steadily evolved to a full-scale civil war.
